Lahinch and the Cliffs of Moher

Hello all,  Hope everyone is having a good day.  I have been meaning to get these picture up for a while now but haven't gotten to it.  Rob and I went to Lahinch in Co Clare a couple weeks ago on a geology society field trip.  We had awesome weather and got to see some really cool rocks.  Meanwhile my other roommate Zach was off in Gallway winning the all Ireland volleyball tournament on the UCC team.  So all in all everyone had a good weekend.

Carrauntoohil

Hello.  On friday we went to the Cork city 'water works', which is where they treat the drinking water for the entire city.  They get the water directly from the river Lee, which does not seem like the cleanest.  Thei facilities are also from the 1950's, with uncovered settlement tanks.  I am kind of baffled.  Anyways, here are a couple pictures from our afternoon field trip.

I made eggs benedict for the fellas on saturday
and it was awesome

Robbie who is from North Carolina

We were woken up on Sunday morning by out friend Joanne.  Here and Laura (another IFG student from Montana) had hatched a plan to climb Ireland's tallest mountain.  I had planned on doing nothing all day, so it seemed like a good alternative.  The weather was awesome, except at the top which was severely windy and cold.  There wasn't as much trail as I had expected.  We worked our way up a gully (we later learned that it is called the devil's ladder).  And then raged up the loose rock to the top.  It was an awesome hike.  We quickly enjoyed a Newcastle at the top and retreated from the cold.

County Clare

Hello.  I just got back from a 3 day geology field trip up to County Clare.  It was awesome.  We were on the atlantic the whole time with good weather for the mot part.  We were looking at huge turbadite (massive underwater sand avalanches) deposits as well as an ancient mississippi-esk delta system.  It was really neat.  These deposits are the analog for a bunch of the oil in the Gulf of Mexico (maybe not so cool), but the rocks were superb.
